Peter Kareiva, distinguished ecologist and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, served the Director of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability at UCLA from before leaving in August 2020 to become the President and CEO of the Aquarium of the Pacific.  During this time Professor Kareiva held a 50% appointment in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology that I was also a member of.

 

Peter has graciously given me permission to post a narrative of his experiences at UCLA.  I am immensely grateful to him for providing this insider's perspective of EEB and UCLA.
